I am a new client. How do I open an account with UOBKH?
 

Under SGX guidelines, clients must come in person to our office to open a trading account. Our counter services are located at.

  Operating hours are from 8:30am to 6:00pm (Mondays to Fridays except for public holidays).
   
  Alternatively, you can also visit any of the UOB branches or Invest Shops during their banking hours.
   
  Clients who are unable to come down personally to our office to sign the account opening application form, may have his/her identity verified by one of more additional processes. Examples of such verification procedures include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following means (as issued by SGX guidelines):
   
  Accepting account opening forms that are certified by:
 
   
- Justice of Peace, public notaries, lawyers
   
- UOB branches (only if applicant holds a UOB account)

- Recent bank statement (not more than 3 months) or passbook with any of the participating banks in Singapore (Citibank, DBS/POSB, HSBC, OCBC, Standard Chartered and UOB) for opening a securities account with CDP [Foreigners’ residential address will be based on that indicated on the bank statement]

Your user ID and password will be sent to you in 2 separate mailers once the application is approved.

How long does it take to process the application?
  For existing clients, it takes an average of five working days upon receiving your completed forms. For new clients, it takes five working days once your CDP and other relevant accounts are opened.

What is a Central Depository System (CDS) Account (for trading in Malaysia)?
 

The CDS acts as a means of representing ownership and movement of Malaysian securities. CDS account holders enjoy the conveniences in obtaining electronic securities transfer and trade settlement.

A CDS account is required for trading in the Malaysian market.

How do I open a CDS account?
  Existing clients should download the Malaysian Authorised Nominees CDS Account form, complete and mail it together with your Online Trading Account Application form to:

  Alternatively, you can request for your Trading Representative to open the CDS account on your behalf. Please include a cheque of S$5 processing fee made payable to 'UOB KayHian Pte Ltd' and indicate on the reverse of the cheque. Please allow three working days for processing.
   
  New clients are required to visit our office to open a trading account.

What is the W8-BEN form (for trading in US)?
  The W-8BEN form refers to the Certificate of Foreign Status of Beneficial Owner, and is required for non-US citizens and residents.
   
  Existing clients should complete (including the W-8BEN portion) and mail the Online Trading Account Application form to:

  New clients are required to visit our office to open a trading account.
   
  As these forms expire at the end of the third succeeding calendar year, we will inform clients to resubmit these forms every three years.
   
 

Note:

  1. US citizens and residents are restricted from trading in the US market through UOB Kay Hian, due to NASD regulatory policy. Should your citizenship/residency change from non-US to US, you are required to notify us immediately and close your account.
  2. Likewise, should your citizenship/residency change from one non-US country to another non-US country, you are required to resubmit the W-8BEN form.
  3. Submission of the W-8BEN form does not exempt clients from the withholding tax imposed on dividends/interest.

If you are a registered user of CDP Internet Access, you can do a real-time update of your address under "My Profile" after logging in to your CDP account.
